Strategy Business Partner

The Press’s Education Division provides educational resources and solutions to teachers, parents, learners and institutions. We cover Primary, Secondary, Trade and early learning markets, both for the UK and for customers around the world. The Strategy & Delivery (S&D) team is a Strategic Enabling Function within the Press’ Education Division. They are responsible for helping to define the strategic direction and priorities, as well as facilitate the growth and success of Education Division and its markets. The key areas of responsibility for this team are insight generation and analysis, strategy and corporate development, strategic planning process and strategy execution support and reporting.

About the Role

This Strategy Business Partner role is a newly created role reporting into the Director of Strategy and Delivery – Education and will support the strategy development, corporate development and decision making for OUP’s Education business as part of the wider S&D team. The key purpose is to support the Education Division’s Senior Leadership Team to make the best data backed, strategically aligned decisions. You will work with internal (and external as required) subject matter experts to deliver these decisions, ensuring that a thorough process of analysis, consideration and option development has been performed.

Duties of the role will include:

  1. Lead and facilitate strategic decision making. Work with SMEs to provide analysis, options and recommendation(s) on strategic projects, new initiatives/opportunities, and other projects as required
  2. Divisional lead for M&A activities in support of the divisional strategy. End to end responsibility from target identification to valuation support to transaction execution
  3. Support for divisional or market partnerships, ensuring best practice execution and strategic alignment
  4. Provide a ‘fresh eyes’ review of existing strategy and support the Education Division through the annual strategic planning process, ensure that strategic decisions are captured in the Strategy/5 Year Plans/Budgets
  5. Support and promote a collaborative, cross-market approach to strategy and delivery work to identify opportunities to create synergies and leverage the Education Division’s scale.
  6. Provide mentoring for business teams to support the production of high quality business plan articulation, proposal writing and development of business cases.

About You

You will have:

  • Related work experience in strategy and corporate development and support, including valuation modelling, due diligence, and end-to-end corporate transaction processes.
  • A track record of partnering with senior management / C-Suite executives to develop and deliver strategic options and decisions. Experience of developing/gathering and using insights to support this work.
  • Experience in hypothesis and data driven insight, strategy and new opportunity development.
  • Experience of understanding and using market, customer, and financial information needed to analyse business proposals and support decision making. Financial modelling experience.
  • Extensive experience at developing, coordinating and writing clear, high quality, well presented and compelling strategy and business proposals, for board level submission and to drive decision making.
  • Experience of interacting and influencing senior stakeholders and leadership teams,.
  • Experience working in a global, matrix operating environment.
  • Education / Publishing background and an MBA or chartered qualification would both provide a significant advantage

We’re all currently working from home at the moment due to COVID.  We are currently thinking through how we use our offices in the future and are open to discussing flexible arrangements such as a blend of office and home working.
